Principles & Accomplishments

Stronger by the Member

CALA was created by and for those interested in promoting and strengthening Assisted Living, Memory Care, and Continuing Care Retirement Communities in the state of California. In partnership with other advocacy groups, policymakers, and community leaders, CALA and its members have accomplished much to enhance the care and service that these models of care provide to California’s seniors.

In recognition of these efforts, Argentum awarded CALA the State Affiliate Award for Excellence in 2009 and the Horace D’Angelo Award in 2010 for our work on bedridden legislation.

Where We Started

CALA was formed in 1995 as the California Assisted Living Facility Association (CALFA). Since then, CALA and its members have sustained a successful history of educating a knowledgeable and diverse workforce, advocating for positive legislation, and providing leadership in the delivery of high-quality care.

What We Stand For

Looking to the future, CALA anticipates many changes in the delivery of long-term services and supports. We endeavor to educate policymakers, stakeholders, and the public-at-large about the quality of life enjoyed by residents, and we will continue to advocate for laws and regulations which will support our members’ provision of high-quality care.
